A Word of Intention

Sometimes a single word can be such a powerful compass. It can give direction when you’re feeling lost and it can remind you of your aspirations, values and strengths, helping you to regain your footing and find your way.

At the beginning of 2017, I chose ‘simplicity’ as my word of intent for the year. I returned to it again and again. Each time I did, it brought a sense of lightness, clarity and ease, often at times when I was over-thinking or over-doing. Difficult situations suddenly felt easier, my load lighter. How often we over-complicate things.

My word for 2018 is ‘courage’. It’s a powerful intention carrying real inner strength. I know I have courage, but I want to remember I know I have courage. I want to be able to dig deep and make full use of it. Who knows what 2018 will bring, but I know there are challenges ahead of me, including a three month long hospital inpatient neuro-rehabilitation programme. Drawing upon the courageous warrior within me will help me open to the unknown. Who knows where it might take me?

What’s your word of intention for 2018? Or maybe it’s a colour, a quote or a picture that resets your inner compass?

A Time for Change

‘The Book of Life’ by David Kracov

I love the sense of a fresh start and feeling of a new beginning that January brings, but I’m not sure about New Year’s resolutions.  Don’t get me wrong, I think setting yourself a challenge and changing an aspect of your life for the better is fantastic.  I do wonder though how many people set an unrealistic resolution in January, only to have given up and forgotten about it by February, perhaps trundling through the rest of the year feeling slightly disillusioned, until repeating the cycle when feeling the excess of Christmas and the wake-up call of January 1st?  Probably quite a few.  A gradual, consistent approach to making changes can be more lasting.  It’s also a wonderful way of staying in touch with your lifestyle, your values and your dreams. Read More
